White dwarf mass growth in cataclysmic variables: roles of dwarf novae

چکیده

ABSTRACT The disc instability mechanism (DIM) is widely accepted to account for the transient behaviour of dwarf novae (DNe), which experience short outbursts separated by long quiescence. duty cycle (the ratio between outburst duration and recurrence time) determines amount accreted mass white (WDs) during outbursts, thus playing an important role in long-term binary evolution. Employing code Modules Experiments Stellar Astrophysics, we systemically investigate influence cycles on evolution DNe growth accreting carbon-oxygen (CO) WDs. Our calculations show that, while DIM can considerably accretion process, efficient WD-mass requires a particular range cycle. For WDs with initial masses 0.6, 0.7, 1.1 M⊙, these are 0.006$\, \le$d$\, \le$0.007, d = 0.005, and, 0.003 accumulated reach 0.1, 0.13, 0.21 respectively. In all our simulations, no CO grow their explosion Type Ia supernovae about 1.38 M⊙. Because much time-scale state, final donor-star orbital periods insensitive cycles. Therefore, propose that could alleviate WD problem some extent.

Evidence of Precession of the White Dwarf in Cataclysmic Variables

Cataclysmic Variables (CV) are close binary systems, in which the primary, the more massive star, is a white dwarf. CVs usually exhibit a number of periodicities, most of which are now understood. However, recently, a new phenomenon was discovered that does not fit the standard picture. Two objects have been discovered to show periods that are much longer than orbital, and have no relation to i...

Dwarf nova oscillations and quasi - periodic oscillations in cataclysmic variables - VII . OY Carinae and oscillations in dwarf novae in quiescence

We have observed dwarf nova oscillations (DNOs) in OY Car during outburst, down through decline and beyond; its behaviour is similar to what we have previously seen in VW Hyi, making it only the second dwarf nova to have DNOs late in outburst that continue well into quiescence. There are also occasional examples of DNOs in deep quiescence, well away from outburst – they have properties similar ...

Dwarf Novae at Low Mass Transfer Rates

We show that if the inner regions of accretion discs in quiescent dwarf nova systems are removed by magnetic disruption or evaporated by siphon ows, the remaining disc is globally stable for mass transfer rates < 10 15 g s 1. This implies that (super)outbursts in these systems have to be triggered by an enhanced mass transfer form the companion. We suggest that the lack of normal outbursts in W...

Hot Accretion onto White Dwarfs in Quiescent Dwarf Novae

We present dynamically consistent solutions for hot accretion onto unmagnetized, rotating white dwarfs (WDs) in five quiescent dwarf novae. The measured WD rotation rates (and other system parameters) in RX And, SS Cyg, U Gem, VW Hyi and WZ Sge imply spindown of the WD by an extended hot flow emitting most of its X-rays in the vicinity of the stellar surface. In general, energy advection is abs...
